Learn and Earn

Learn and Earn Banner.

An apprenticeship is a great way to learn while you earn and gain recognised qualifications. You'll spend time studying for a qualification whilst working within one of the companies of Tara Group.

Site Supervisor

The course work is interesting and accessible with 10 different modules, delivered virtually by a construction focused trainer from the National Home Builders Council (NHBC). No need to travel, you can learn from anywhere. The course focuses on new build homes and meets the requirements of apprenticeship standard ST0048. At the end of this apprenticeship, you'll have an industry-recognised Level 4 qualification in Site Supervision with a relevant CSCS card. More information on the course can be found here

Bricklaying

If you are looking for a more skills based apprenticeship, we have partnered with the NHBC to offer a bricklaying apprenticeship. You will be assigned to one of our site based trade gangs where you will develop your skills, building our beautiful homes. At the end of this apprenticeship, you'll have an industry-recognised Level 4 qualification.

We are looking to support several trade apprentices through the new NHBC Bricklaying apprentice scheme. Learning their trade in the new NHBC bricklaying hub in Tamworth along with time working alongside experienced site gangs.

Your time will be split between on-site work and learning as you become a fully qualified Bricklayer. After a 5-week continuous block of heavily practical sessions held at the NHBC Training Hub, you will return to site working alongside a qualified and experienced gang of bricklayers. You will then return to the hubs every 8-10 weeks to complete additional intensive two-week blocks of training. Without college term times and our intensive blocks of learning you can complete within 18 months.
More information on the course can be found here.

Groundworker

Want to understand the in’s and outs of construction, then this is the place to start.  You will interpret design specifications to prepare a construction site ready for structural building works to begin.  Over an 18-month period, you will gain all the skills required alongside a Level 2 Groundworker apprenticeship qualification. More details on the skills you will gain can be found here.
These are all site-based roles, so you will need to be happy to work outdoors in all weathers. You will need to be good with your hands, good working within a team, and passionate about the industry. You will be based in the East & West Midlands and will require your own transport to travel to your site and occasionally our offices in Chasetown, Staffordshire.  GCSE or equivalent Maths and English (Grade 2-3) essential.

Office apprentice

Not all about hard hats

Maybe being on site isn’t for you?  We have plenty of office-based apprenticeships too.  Across the group we have apprentices in Engineering, Plant, Purchasing/Buying, IT, Finance, People and Office Administration. Each of these apprenticeships will see you learn on the job as well achieve a leading qualification in your chosen area of interest. Alongside the apprenticeship training, we’ll support you through the Tara Academy, our own unique way to train our people to grow, learn, develop their skills for the future.

Progression

We will discuss with you how you want your career to develop and will provide the support you need. You will be setting objectives that will provide clarity and purpose and a development plan that provides the right level of development for you at your stage of your career. You will be joining a company that develops individuals careers, provides all the necessary support within a culture that has strong family values.

This has been the best decision I have made because I learnt a lot whilst doing my apprenticeship and I continue to learn about the industry and its demands after a year of finishing my course. Every day is different. Even if it is doing the same job, there is always something slightly different. Working outside in the fresh air is also a bonus (especially in the summer) and the relationships that you make with people on site every day, having the banter with each other makes the day much better!

Oliver Round, Groundworks Apprentice

My dad works in the construction industry so I have grown up around it and I knew it was something I wanted to do too. Every day is something different, so it doesn’t get tedious. I also love driving the plant machinery!

Jess Simms, Groundworks Apprentice

Whilst going through school it was not on my agenda to work in construction – probably naively not knowing the variety of roles involved. Having started a degree at Loughborough Uni. I decided that it wasn`t for me and that I would prefer to study whilst working, so applied for a higher apprenticeship in surveying. I am currently studying part time at Wolverhampton Uni. whilst working as a trainee estimator. I love the variety of projects that we are asked to measure and price. No two days are the same.

Taryn Grant, Trainee Estimator

I was very pro active with my job search and regularly viewed job opportunities on various jobsites. I came across the opportunity on Indeed which was directly linked to a training provider. I enjoy working for the company; it’s a very warm and welcoming business. I enjoy fixing IT issues whether this may be in the office or out on site. You get to see the construction industry from a different perspective when out in the field.

Bhavan Singh Minhas, IT Service Desk Apprentice

After completing a Level 3 in College; I combined my interest in construction and began scouting for opportunities. My job is very enjoyable, I’m learning many aspects of the construction industry; this is achieved by engaging with the wider teams, spending time on site and constantly liaising with our supply chain. It’s also been a great opportunity to be enrolled onto a university course, being able to apply the knowledge acquired to real life scenarios while earning at the same time.

Nathan Cadman, Apprentice Buyer

I didn’t know much about the opportunities in the office, but I had a small knowledge on site-based opportunities due to my dad being in construction. I love helping build homes that make me proud to work in construction and making people happy with their new homes.

Max Robinson, Trainee Quantity Surveyor
